Even a blizzard isn't enough to stop Tecmo III from kicking off without a hitch. This is the first tourney to hold round robin group play to set the single elimination field, and it finishes with no major upsets. In the 1st round of single elim, Rick knocks out friend and Tecmo II runner-up James, then beats another Neenah prodigy (Hoss) to advance to the Final 4. Waiting for him is Sobhi, who beat Josh in a matchup of Tecmo I and II champs. In one of the best games in Madison Tecmo history, Sobhi’s Oilers need an onside kick to beat Rick’s Eagles and advance to the finals. Dice benefits from a timely second-half system malfunction, then beats Chet on the final play of the replay game, then loses to mentor Peter in the Final 4. In the finals, Harbaugh’s pass to open Muster falls harmlessly in the end zone to give Peter’s Oilers the trophy over Sobhi.
